The fact that anyone might think of themself as having less worth or less value as a human being, or might have been caused, might have been forced to think that, by their community, by their family, by their, you know, is just abhorrent to me, but it is a reality for some people."

I agree with you. I do think people subconsciously identify Remus and Sirius as an unlikely couple because it is a same-sex one, but it’s a difficult thing to make people aware of, because most people will insist that they aren’t homophobic (they may not be, but they are probably heteronormative).
This is part of a problem in the way children are taught about prejudice. The lesson I think we all received is, “if you are prejudiced, you are a bad person.” People therefore respond to accusations of racism, homophobia, cultural appropriation, etc. by thinking to themselves, “bigots are bad people, and I am not a bad person, so I cannot be a bigot, there must be another explanation.” (This is an example of “cognitive dissonance,” I believe). What we should teach, of course, is that it is important to identify and address prejudice in ourselves, because it exists, it is negative, and it is probably there in some form.

Daniel Radcliffe’s PSA for The Trevor Project (via queerwatch)

I want every young Harry Potter fan in the world to hear him say “Be proud of who you are.”

I think it’s important, actually, for someone from a big commercial series like Harry Potter or something like that, and particularly as, as I’m, as I’m not gay, or bisexual, or transgender … or lesbian, you know it’s, I mean, I think the fact that I’m straight makes … not a difference, but just the fact that, you know, it’s, it’s the fact that straight — it shows, actually, straight people are incredibly interested and care a lot about this as well and you don’t just have to be gay to take an interest, you know, this is, for me, this is probably the thing I’m most passionate about."

This is really meaningful to me, that Dan’s passionate about these issues. And he’s so right, that it’s important for people from very influential ventures like Harry Potter to voice their support. Just his support is really meaningful to me, as a Harry Potter fan, and a lesbian, and I wish more young people could know about it.

I don’t care if he’s gay - and I don’t care who he hooked up with - whether it was a male or a female. It changes nothing about the story for me.

/end Dumbledore’s sexual preference talk for the rest of this Tumblr’s life.

THANK YOU! I was like…DOES IT REALLY MATTER IF HE’S GAY ‘CAUSE IT JUST MAKES HIM MORE OF A BADARSE VOLDECHUCKER if you ask me!

It matters to me.

……because now I can ship AD/GG and not have my head torn off :D

Trivialities I know. but no, it doesn’t take away from the story at ALL <3

*butting in*

Oddly, in a way, it changes things for me. Not that he had a thing with men in particular but that he was in love and that it was an evil person. The fact that he was gay just makes it more complicated for poor little Dumbledore cause lets face it, he was in love like a million years ago when gay-ness was so taboo.

AD/GG = <3

That’s really interesting, the way you phrased it: “that he was in love and that it was an evil person.” I hadn’t thought about it precisely that way before, because I don’t generally look at people as being either good or evil and neither does Jo. Despite that, though, the concept of evil in magic and deed is present, and a person who commits these spells or acts is touched by them, changed. To love such a person — when love is such a Good Power that the Truly Evil (ie. Voldemort) are incapable of it (either by cause or effect) — is would change a person, as well. Perhaps this has something to do with the paucity of love later in Dumbledore’s life.
